The letter below was written by one of our villa owners in response to the following question:
To Whom it may concern:
My family and I are considering renting a villa through Akumal Villas LLC. Our concern is the substantial down payment, along with the rather sparse content of the "rental agreement". We will be bringing a very large group to Akumal including several children and we want to be sure that Akumal Villas LLC is a legitimate agency representing the villa owners. Could you please share with us your experience with Akumal Villas?

Dear Carolyn,
Hi. I am the owner of Las Hamacas, in South Akumal. I have had a professional relationship with Akumal Villas LLC for over 10 years.
Akumal Villas LLC and their very friendly and efficient staff, have, in my experience, always treated the renters of the villas like family, with the highest priority.
I have never personally had,nor ever heard of, any disagreement or dispute between Akumal Villas LLC and its villa owners or renters. Akumal Villas LLC has always taken the stance that the customer comes first. If there is ever a question of refunds, or rescheduling, (imagine in the wake of our last two hurricanes there were plenty), or even moving, because of some quirky preference, Akumal Villas LLC always takes the side of the renters.
We owners understand that in order to make customers feel safe, Akumal Villas LLC must make them a priority. If Diane, the owner of Akumal Villas LLC ever finds that the renters do not get first class treatment from the villas, she has a simple solution. She drops them from the roster. With her amazing record of rentals, and keen business mind, few of us would ever opt for that.
I, too, had trouble believing, when I first signed up with them, that customers would ever pay the entire amount up front without having seen the houses. I myself would be very hesitant, too, especially in a country like Mexico, where the laws are so different and one's ability to recoup a loss seems questionable. But Akumal Villas LLC continually monitors the homes, and checks up to make sure that we are providing what we promise. She even makes frequent suggestions to us as to how we can improve our service to our guests.
The rates might even seem high to some, but the cost of maintaining our villas in top condition (ie replacing refrigerators every three years due to deterioration in this tropical clime) makes this a necessity.
Also, without paying the entire amount up front, we would suffer many "no-shows" something we owners cannot afford on our slim profit margin. But, its the only way we can enforce the reciprocal "fairness" in continually providing the best service we can.
I can safely say that you are in excellent hands, and have nothing to worry about with Akumal Villas LLC. I am very happy to be part of their roster and team. They have always dealt with me and my renters most fairly and reasonably.
