The Akumal area is not know for its
nightlife, but is known for its star-gazing. In many of the small towns things
close up relatively early. For those of you who have a need for some night clubs
and dancing we recommend you head to Playa Del Carmen. 5th Avenue is a
great place to go, it is a pedestrian street with lots of shops, restaurants and
clubs. Tulum is also becoming a popular place for a night out.
Some other ideas for night time entertainment are: Xcaret
has wonderful night shows. Starting in the late afternoon with the authentic
Maya Ball Game. It continues on with the park lit by candles and a variety of
dances and shows.
How about a night snorkel tour or night dive? The
coral reef completely changes in the evening and it is a totally different world
at night.
Centro Ecologico Akumal offers educational programs in the
evening and throughout Turtle season they offer Turtle Walks. Be sure to stop by
and make your reservations in advance.
Check with the local restaurants
many offer entertainment during dinner. In Akumal, there is are fabulous
folkloric and Flamenco dancing floor shows several weekday evenings and a jazz
band on Fridays at the Lol-Ha restaurant. La Buena Vida restaurant
often has a band and dancing and also kareoke night on Wednesdays. La Cueva Del Pescador is also a fun spot to spend the evening. Akumal has a stage which occasionally features
live music or skits and the ecological center (CEA) offers evening programs.
Only 25 minutes north of Akumal, Playa Del Carmen offers a wide
selection of restaurants, nightclubs and bars. You will find a wonderful array
of live and taped music, with most clubs open until the wee hours. The rapidly growing Tulum is a mere 25 mins to the south and home to beachfront Mezzannine`s legendary friday night party, La Zebra and Acabar`s salsa nights, and La Lupita`s transvestite cabaret style show on tuesday nights. |
