Telephones
This is paradise and you've probably booked this vacation to get away from the constant ringing of telephones! The villas are generally not provided with phones but if having a telephone is a must, you can bring down your cell phone and ask your service provider for international service. It is possible to rent local cell phones. All villas are provided with a contact number so that friends and relatives can leave a message for you in case of an emergency. There are also many pay phones in the area. The grocery stores here sell national and international calling cards to use in these pay phones.
Public phones will take phone cards for local and international calls. To make a call (local, long distance, international) from a public phone box, purchase a Ladatel phone card (check the rates, usually $10 pesos/ minute to the USA). These are sold in just about all convenience stores.

Internet There are a number of Internet cafes along the Maya Riviera. In Puerto Aventuras, a very friendly couple run PA Access, situated next to The Pub (on the marina). They charge 1 peso a minute for Internet usage and have great deals if you plan to use their services for longer.
In Akumal, the Internet Cafe is located at the arch at the main entrance to Playa Akumal.
Additional Internet cafes are located in surrounding areas such as Tulum and Playa del Carmen. A new Internet cafe has just opened up on Half Moon Bay, by Buena Vida and the two small convenience stores. |

Periodicals and Newspapers
Periodicals and newspapers are available at most convenience stores in both English and Spanish. There is a Cancun edition of the Miami Herald as well as several US publications. We recommend you pick up a copy of Sac-Be, this free newspaper is loaded with great information about what to do, where to go, coupons, and enjoyable articles in both Spanish and English. |
