Medical Facilities and Pharmacies

There are a number of farmacias up and down the coast. Almost every town, big or small, has some type of farmacia. The Puerto Aventuras Pharmacy is located almost directly behind restaurant Arigato. They are open till about 9PM and the staff is friendly and helpful. There is also a doctor on call here. Farmacia Paris is located behind the post office (near the gazebo, on the main drag) and is open until 7PM.

Akumal does not have a farmacia but there is a homeopathic doctor and store across the highway in the pueblo. Dr Nestor Mendoza is a bilingual doctor who has an office in the main square (near the post office) His office hours are 9 AM to 4PM Monday to Saturday, but he also makes house calls. The office phone number is (984) 875 9393. His cell phone is 044 984 806 4616. Ambulance serice number 044-984-876-2250. Dr Nestor does not accept credit cards.

Also, across the highway in Akumal Pueblo, is Dra. Elizabeth Mendoza Morales. Her pharmacy and consultation service is located at the top of the hill on the left side of the road. Just follow the main road in and you can’t miss it! She is perfectly bilingual in English, performed research at UCLA in Los Angeles, and started her Master’s Degree in The Netherlands. She is open 7 days a week from 8 AM to 2 PM and from 4 PM to 9 PM. The pharmacy phone is (984) 875-9334, office phone is (984) 875-9372 and her cell phone number is 044-984-108 0094. Dr Liz also makes house calls. Both Visa and MasterCard are accepted.

There is a hospital in Cancun and Playa del Carmen. There are also dentists and eye doctors and eye glass stores in both these cities. However, we recommend you bring and extra pair of glasses or contacts so you don't waste a minute of you vacation. There are stories of people losing or breaking their glasses and having to walk around wearing their perscription goggles.
